In some cases, government agencies may find it useful to secure documentation of various features on the lands for which they are responsible. This may include homestead or mining patents, deeds, bills of sale, and various types of land transfers recorded in county courthouses and elsewhere. This has been the case with projects I have conducted for White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), as a subcontractor to an archaeological contracting company. Additionally, I searched WSMR's own records for lease agreements with various ranchers and miners who had been operating in the area prior to the land being required for use as a bombing range.
Individuals, families, and some businesses may also desire records searches for homestead and mining patents or deeds to flesh out documentation for personal or business history projects.
